Why are we still paying VAT on energy bills?

One of the benefits of Brexit, we were told, was that we could dispense with VAT on energy bills, yet over two years have passed and we’re still paying 5% VAT on our electric and gas bills. With inflation, the amount we’re paying is rising, it isn’t a trivial amount that isn’t worth saving as some Government Ministers like to tell us. So, it’s time to remove VAT from UK energy bills. Any money that the consumer saves is disposable income and to avoid recession, the UK needs consumers with money to spend in the shops and in the service sector. It ain’t rocket science.
